Pojer e Sandri Brut Rosè Dolomiti 2008

Impossibly good, fruity yet with a dry finish. Creamy and complex, blackberries, berry jam, and oddly enough crushed blackberry leaves. If you’ve ever gathered blackberries in the summer you’ll know what I’m referring to. They are slightly musky, then  a nice yeasty baked bread scent. At the end of this layered and complex aroma is also a faint nuttiness, and sun baked hay.  In the glass this rosè is a beautiful dark pink, coppery color and once tasted wow! It just pops on your palate, dark berries, clotted cream,a slight briny tang from the chardonnay grapes, and a faint bitter edge of marasca cherries in the long, very long finish. It just stays with you.

Wow! We had 2 precious bottles of this wine here this summer. It was an all meal wine, shrimp, fish cous cous and even ricotta based dessert. It tasted delicious and worked with all these flavors.  I shared it with all the family, didn’t want to but I did. The winery owner’s daughter was our guest for most meals during the summer. She interned at my office for 10 days. So there.
I was stunned, blown away and  fell in love deeply with this wine.
Can’t buy it in my town I think it costs 14 euros and change per bottle or close. I bought it so long ago back in March and was hoarding it till summer. We tasted lots of lovely spumantes this summer and it this was a rare treat indeed.
